Welcome Spring!

Which means it’s the beginning of warmer weather, buds on the trees, the beginning of new life, daylight savings time! and blooming flowers.

And if that last one appeals to you even in the slightest, have I got the place for you! Imagine nearly 50 acres of one of natures best, most colorful shows of natural beauty. This spectacular display is one of the best you will see anywhere in the world!!!

Welcome to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, San Diego! For a short season you can enjoy one of the best displays of springtime in real life!

For approximately 6-8 weeks the Giant Tecolote Ranunculus will bloom (from early March to early May) and visitors from all over will flock to enjoy the beauty of the San Diego Flower Fields.

*The Tecolote Giant Ranunculus were quite ridonculous!!!! Truly a burst of color and beauty. It is breathtakingly awesome!*

The fields themselves are gorgeous. You can enjoy the acres and acres of flower fields; but make sure to stay on the trail to keep them in pristine condition. And while you cannot walk within the rows, it is easy to see why so many people come to see them! For this is quite a spectacle to behold. And thanks to creative camera angles and strategic placement of photo platforms you can look as if you are right inside the rows and rows of flowers.

*You can pose at strategic photo ops throughout the fields, which makes it the perfect place for pictures with an unbeatable background!*

Though the rainbow rows of the ranunculus flowers are the headliner of this show, there is so much more there to see and enjoy. My personal favorite field is the American Flag made of flowers. But you can also enjoy the greenhouse of Poinsettas, orchids, bird cages and more. This entire area is simply amazing! And if you are looking for fresh flowers to purchase, I would recommend this place. You will not find more top quality products anywhere at such a fantastic price.

The orchid greenhouse has spectacular displays like this pink giant orchid; which just so happens to be my favorite flower. And you can purchase your own in the nursery on site, which has beautiful options all at great prices!

Along with the fun exhibits, there is also a children’s area, fairy gardens and a wonderful playground my children ended the day at and balked when having to leave. This playground was quite magical, and with only one in and out entrance, it made for a safe and easy place to let the children roam and play and even picnic without worry. They also picked up a scavenger hunt upon entering, which kept them motivated as we wandered and explored; running from station to station to stamp each new section. So maybe a flower field doesn’t initially sound like something your kids would like… let me assure you, they will love this place! Optional extras included a gem area, where children could mine. And if they had completed their scavenger hunt they could get a slight discount. And if you are not a fan of walking large areas you can pay $6 for a tractor ride to take you around the fields. By the end of our trip, I was thinking $6 was a pretty good deal because this area is vast! And, had I worn better shoes it probably wouldn’t have been an issue. Word to the wise: wear good walking shoes, or at least bring them along.
