Free and Cheap Date Ideas in LA

As parents to 4 young kids, it is important essential, to keep that romantic spark alive and going. We are huge proponents of “dating your spouse!” Yet we tend to be boooooring when we date. Like the typical dinner and a movie. But it is usually just the movie. And sometimes it’s just a movie at home in our jammies. But who really watches movies when you can re-watch The Office for the 9th time?

However, we also enjoy a good full day out in the “city”—otherwise known as L.A. (when we can get away from the kids for that long with babysitters and work and well, life). When we do go out we try to take turns planning and surprising the other one. So here are two examples of “dating your spouse”—LA edition.

His date:

We started at the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). Which has a lot of cool art displays both inside and outside. Definitely worth a look. And don’t forget your camera. Reservations required and on certain days entrance is free! Look on the website for more info.

There are so, so, so many options as to where to eat at when you are in Los Angeles. I could do a whole post about some of our favorites out there. We tend to use yelp and friend suggestions a lot.

And we may have grabbed some Sprinkles Cupcakes to bring home for later. Because dessert guarantees a good date says I.

Her date:

My kid-free date found us in L.A. at a really neat and relatively new museum, The Broad. I got us reservations, but the whole reason for going was the Infinity Room. Word to the wise, the Infinity Room requires a separate reservation; so, make sure to plan accordingly. Again if you plan accordingly, entrance can be free on specific days.

After The Broad we walked next door and looked around the Walt Disney Concert Hall. I would actually love to go back and take an actual tour because this is a spectacular building.

After that we continued walking down the street to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. What a remarkable place! We enjoyed every aspect of it to the fullest extent.

If available I would 100% recommend grabbing those Metro Scooters they have for rent on the street in major areas. They did not have them when we were there, but there is a good chance they might be around now. And there is so much to see it could definitely be worth your time and foot soreness.

And I’m going to be honest in that most of this day was really the things I wanted to do and knew that Wes would simply be a good sport. Because this guy lives for food. And the more of it the better. So, I knew he would enjoy the last part of our day the best. Dinner. I had it all planned out to go to a place he’s been dying to visit for a while. It’s called The Shake Shack in Glendale (a little pit-stop on our route home). The Shake Shack has delicious burgers, cheese and bacon fries, and obviously shakes. It was remarkably good!!! Maybe a tad expensive, but totally worth it. From dinner we walked to the Americana at Brand and shopped around and enjoyed the free summer concert on the grass.

Any of these days could convert to a family day as most things are very child friendly and fun.

It’s time for us to go on another date here soon, because we just finished the entire Office series. Again.
