The Hofsas House in Carmel-by-the-Sea is the perfect lodging for families!

Carmel by the Sea is a charming town by the beach providing a one of a kind experience. Every square mile of this fairy tale town nestled along the Central California Coast brings spectacular views, amazing food, as well as culture, art, natural beauty and amazing discoveries around each and every corner.

One of the things you might notice about Carmel by the Sea is the unique feel of the town. Each building brings it’s own special aesthetic.

Located in the heart of Carmel, The Hofsas House is within walking distance of everything you need while you are visiting.

The Hofsas House was one of the first buildings we saw when driving in. This beautiful pink Bavarian style boutique hotel has all the charm and comfort of a small family run inn, while providing the necessities of a large hotel.

This delightful hotel is perfect for families for many reasons. One: the rooms are big. Did I say big, I meant large. No, that doesn’t even do it justice. The suites are enormous. They can accommodate large families with no problem and still boast space to spare. Our accommodations came with 2 rooms, 3 large beds, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen area with almost all the amenities you could want, plus plenty of seating and tons of extra floor space. The seating may not sound important, but it is when you are homeschooling on the road, working remotely, or even just want to sit anywhere besides a bed when you are inside. The rooms also have a door to separate the two, which was awesome for mom and dad at night and allowed us to get some alone time to decompress and be together. It was almost like two vacations in one. Great family vacation with the kids, but time together in our own space too.

The suites have 2 large rooms. Each has 1-2 beds, a bathroom, and closet. Plus ample space as you can see here.
The second room also has a kitchen area, with a sink, and fridge.

A continental breakfast is also provided with your stay. During Covid guests are encouraged to come to the lobby, fill their tray with Danish pastries, fruit, yogurt as well as coffee, tea, and juice to bring back to their room to enjoy in their own space; be it their kitchen area, in front of their fireplace or on the balcony (*not all rooms have a balcony or fireplace). At other times guests can opt to enjoy their breakfast in the sweet parlor area, adding to the pleasant experience the inn has to offer. We always try to save a little where we can on vacation to splurge on the experiences that are most important to us, so having the ability to have breakfast at our hotel, grocery shop and bring food to keep in the refrigerator at the hotel is always welcome.

Normally, guests can choose to spend breakfast in the sweet lobby area (seen above) as well.

Of course it wouldn’t be the perfect hotel without a heated pool, which, let’s be honest, is all the kids care about. They would quite honestly be happy spending the entire time we were on vacation in the hotel pool regardless of the weather. And be mindful, it is not typical California weather here on the Central Coast. You normally need at least a light jacket on, so the fact the pool is heated and has a dry sauna is big time here!

Kids will love the heated pool and dry sauna during any season!

And could it be a true family vacation if your furry family members were not welcome? Of course not! So feel free to bring them along and know that The Hofsas House is both dog and kid friendly! And Carmel is one of the most dog friendly towns I have EVER been in. The whole family was shocked at the amount of dogs walking the streets with their owners. It was a really fun and unexpected element. However, had I not known dogs were welcome I would have had no idea since the room smelled great and was squeaky clean.

The best part is that families can afford to stay here. For all that this wonderful place has to offer you might expect to pay an arm and leg. But, it is very reasonable! Plus, after speaking with the owner of this property, as well as community members and restaurant owners who raved about what a wonderful person she is, I am happy to support this establishment. The Hofsas House has been around for 70 years, spanning 3 generations. What started out as 2 cottages has grown into the 38 one-of-a-kind hotel rooms it has today. We can’t wait until our travels bring us back to Carmel and specifically to the Hofsas House.

Welcome to the Hofsas House a Bavarian style Inn located in Carmel by the Sea in Monterey County.

And fear not to travel during this unsure time. The Hofsas House has taken all the necessary precautions to ensure your safety. Besides a rigid cleaning routine and commitment to all necessary safety precautions one of the things we liked most about this place is that all rooms open to fresh air. No air vents are shared, no hallways, no elevators, and literally besides the lobby, guests do not share space. Carmel is also one of the most regulated places I have been to yet when it comes to mask enforcement. Signs everywhere and apparently we heard they are strict when giving out $100 no mask fines. We did not attempt to find out whether or not it was true.

Hotel amenities include:

  • Free wifi
  • Free parking
  • Dry sauna and heated pool
  • Cable TV
  • Continental breakfast
  • Walking distance to the village
  • Ocean and pine views
  • 8 blocks to Carmel Beach
  • 1 miles from Pebble Beach
  • 1 mile from the Mission
  • 3 miles from Point Lobos State Reserve
  • And more!

The Hofsas House is also within walking distance of everthing you might want to do and see during your time in Carmel.

Guests can walk to Ocean Ave to enjoy the ample restaurants, art galleries, cafes, and world renown beaches and views!

Dine in one of the many restaurants, many within walking distance. Or check into an art gallery, the kids will love the Dr. Seuss one. We enjoyed a stroll through The Pilgrim’s Way Bookstore and Secret Garden; which is literally just as magical as it sounds. The heart of the village (Ocean Ave) is mere blocks from the hotel. And world renown Carmel Beach, with it’s stunning vistas and shores is about a 20 minute walk. Within miles of the hotel are the Mission, Pebble Beach, and Point Lobos State Reserve. All must see items in my opinion and very accessible staying at The Hofsas House.

Our family found a wonderful restaurant to enjoy on a beautiful evening.
