I’m ALWAYS down for a fun staycation idea. And since discovering San Luis Obispo County and all the amazing, wonderful, spectacular, breath-takingly beautiful, and fun cities and places to explore in the area we have been trying to rediscover the lesser known areas (for us here in So Cal) that California has to offer.
At a mere 3 + hour drive, this area isn’t too far to make a quick weekend getaway. And there is literally so much to see and do not only in Paso Robles but also on the road trip to get there, you will be kicking yourself for not going sooner.
And as you explore you’ll want a great, central location to stay that is newly-remodeled, clean, unique and as cute as it gets! Enter:
The Stables Inn in Paso Robles.
The Stables Inn is a 19-room hotel located just 3 blocks from Paso Robles’ historic downtown; where all the best restaurants, and bars are found as well as a great city park. The hotel features modern, stylish and unpretentious accommodations with just the touch of Western farmhouse chic. We loved everything about this place. From the location, to the touches of horses, the hot cocoa/coffee “tack room”, firepit and more. This place has it all! Plus, in case I haven’t painted the picture well enough, in one word The Stables Inn is absolutely adorable!
Our family stayed in The Bunk House. The bunk house comfortably slept all 6 of us, and left room to spare. It was perfect for our family get-a-way, but would also be an amazing girls trip, or Bridal Party location. This room featured a California King bed, and two sets of Twin Bunk Beds …all with Plush, Pillow-Top Mattresses, Egyptian Cotton sheets and luxury bedding. And let me say it felt like sleeping on clouds. Soooo soft and comfortable, which is a big deal to me.
The decor in the room was the cutest too. My girls asked to decorate their room at home in the style of the bunk house. Think shiplap, antlers on walls, cow pillows (their favorite), animal rugs, and western chic. I am happy to oblige their good taste.
The bathroom was state of the art, clean, and well stocked. The layout matched that of the rest of the room, and was well thought out and flowed together to create the perfect mix of cozy, style and comfort!
We also loved that their was no shared elements. Rooms had their own private entrance, no hallways. Our room also included a mini fridge, a table to eat at directly in the center (or play Jenga borrowed from the tack room— which you know we did), had complimentary tea, coffee, water-bottles and our favorite hot-cocoa served in the tack room that can be taken to your room indoors or to enjoy at the private outdoor seating area of the bunk house.
The highlight of our stay? The communal fire pit. We enjoyed our dinner and complimentary hot chocolate from the hotel’s sliding door tack room as a family around the fire. I am such a romantic and this made my heart so happy to enjoy this sweet moment together.
I would recommend this hotel 10/10 while exploring Paso Robles and the surrounding area. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They even walked us to our room and have real keys to the doors! I loved that aspect. It added to the hominess feel of our stay.

Paso Robles is known for it’s wineries, olive groves and breweries. It’s a beautiful town, similar to that of Napa Valley, but without the crowds and prices. While we don’t drink, there is a lot for families to do in the area and makes for a perfect getaway.
Check out this post for more in the area and to plan your road trip.
