Since 1964 The Sea Sprite in Hermosa Beach has been a staple of the area. In fact, my hubby and I both grew up visiting the hotel unbeknownst to each other until a few years into marriage; once we realized this fun fact we knew we wanted our kids to have the same fantastic memories we had there. It makes for a great beach vacation for families in LA.
The best part about this hotel (in my opinion) is the location. It is pretty unbeatable. Located literally steps away from the sand you basically step out of your hotel room and onto the beach. In fact, one of my favorite moments from our trip here is when we used the beach toys provided by the hotel so the kids could play in the sand, while I sat on the patio of the hotel enjoying the firepit and watching from the comfort of a comfy chair. And just a block away is downtown Hermosa Beach with tons of food and drink options. Basically once you arrive you never have to drive anywhere.
Likewise, the kid’s favorite time was strapping on their skates or scooters (which we brought with us) on that same patio and hitting the boardwalk that runs in front of the hotel for a fun ride down the beach. Make sure to bring bikes, running shoes, or something to enjoy the 22 mile strand/boardwalk as you take in the majestic ocean views. Heaven I tell ya! It makes for a perfect Los Angles family beach vacation.
The Sea Sprite does not look the same as it did when we were young.. but for the better. In fact, the hotel has recently been renovated. The newly redesigned rooms have modern decorations and some boast incredible beach views. Our room was absolutely perfect for our family of 6. As we entered the suite we were thrilled to see a nice open layout, perfect kitchenette and amenities, and a great couch which pulled out to a full bed. Going through this large sitting room we were led into a private bedroom with 2 queen sized beds. The suite was huge, clean, comfortable and again in just such a wonderful location, we were wanting for nothing.
The Sea Sprite hotel is also just blocks from downtown Hermosa Beach and the Hermosa Pier. Here we could enjoy restaurants, bars, and shopping all within walking distance of the hotel. The area is a lot of fun for strolling during the day and enjoying in the twinkling lights for a fun night out.
The Sea Sprite was literally and easily within walking distance to everything we needed for a fantastic beachside vacation staycation. And we were there for it. Such a great place. Such a great vacation. And such great fun!

Being born and raised from Manhattan Beach to Hermosa Beach, I know just how wonderful this little beach town is, why my family owned 3 stores in the 70`s known as Aquarius/LuLu`s….
The first store besides Grecko`s that had “hiphugger jeans” “Midriff tops” for girls and well “head shop” as they called it in the 70`s!!!
We had 2 shops in Hermosa Beach, and 1 in Manhattan ⛱ Beach.
Oh those were exciting and fun times.
And the “Sea Sprite” was a hangout for not just my friends, but other residents as well, when each year The Hermosa Beach Fair” would come along. They closed Hermosa Avenue and the streets were filled with arts, crafts, jewelry, food, and of course, tons of people not just locals, but from ALL OVER in state and from out of state..
So proud and glad that special place, The Sea Sprite is still standing…
Anyone should try and visit Hermosa Beach, especially during The Fest!!!!!
