Our family was blown away by the resort itself. In fact, we were so busy playing that after we got back I realized I didn’t take nearly enough photos. Whoops. But honestly, I can’t say enough good things about this place. As soon as we arrived my kids were in heaven. And honestly so were my husband and I. We lucked out having the play equipment right outside our room. So while the adults were happily taking in the 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean from our patio, the kids were happily running from the slides and other playground equipment to then playing ping-pong, a giant connect 4 game and foosball for the first time. This quickly became the favorite past time for our family at the resort.
But the fact that we felt like we could honestly live in the hotel room itself was simply icing on the cake. I loved that every kid was able to have their own space for their stuff, as well as their own bed to sleep in. It was so large and spacious, plus the décor was absolutely gorgeous and everything inside was super clean. We were able to grocery shop at the Costco just down the street and eat in the condo; which makes such a big difference for a large family with kids who are constantly hungry. It saved us both time and money being able to wake up and eat in the room and then get right to the important stuff- like playing and swimming outside. We also saw many families BBQing outside and enjoying the picnic areas as their kid’s happily played at the games and water features.
My personal favorite however was lounging in the sun while the kids ran from the pool to the splash pad and back. It was heavenly! The resort even had toys to play with from small blow up rafts, balls, frizbees, and even goggles. And when or if we wanted to have a day at the beach they had all the equipment for that covered and ready to borrow as well. Now that I think of it, I had another favorite of our stay and that was toasting marshmallows at the outdoor firepits as a family and talking about the fun of the day. We also loved our walks above the flower fields overlooking the ocean on the path adjacent to the hotel.
We spent our mornings in the kid’s activity room listening to music, and doing the activities provided. Some were for a small ($2/3) fee; but many, like the watercolor painting and movie night were completely free.
Our afternoons were spent playing at the pool. And our evenings were spent exploring Carlsbad Village (yummy Pizza Port), eating well and taking in beach sunsets. Yes, it was as heavenly as it sounds.
Of course we wanted to spend time being tourists and taking in beautiful Carlsbad because there is so much to do there (like the flower fields right now of course). However, because the hotel itself was so fun, we found ourselves opting to spend as much time as possible there… which in the opinion of the whole family was honestly the best option!
So if you are looking for a great time, at a great place, in a great city, with great weather… consider booking time at The Grand Pacific Palisades in Carlsbad, San Diego.
