Plan The Ultimate LA Day!

Have you ever had friends coming from out of town looking for a fun day and you can’t think of a single thing to do with them. Or maybe you yourself are thinking, “what can I do today?” and Los Angeles comes to mind because there are thousands of things to do, places to see, and activities to be part of; but that day you can’t think of a single one of them. Don’t worry friend, I’ve got you covered. I’ve done the work of planning a fun day for you. All you have to do is go with an open mind and an adventurous spirit.
Take a Stadium Tour
Sports fans and non sports fans alike will enjoy the first activity on our agenda. A tour of Dodger stadium. I must admit, I was iffy on this one. I like baseball and if I had to declare a team it would be the Dodgers. But, I basically like big pretzels, singing the 7th inning stretch, doing the wave and the Kiss-cam. But, this tour was AWESOME. I liked it way more than I anticipated. If you have anyone in your party who even remotely likes baseball, or even sports in general, this is the activity for you. There is so much history and cool memorabilia almost everyone will enjoy what it has to offer. And being down on the field is unbelievably cool.
Eat an Iconic Meal
After the stadium tour, I’m sending you to eat (because don’t all good vacation days include good food?) at an iconic Los Angeles landmark, Phillipe’s; for their famous original double dip french sandwich. This place has a gritty feel to it. But, man alive, that double dip is, well, it is definitely worth looking into! And gobbling it all up! And shed a tear or two of happiness that I sent you here. And enjoy the atmosphere as much as the food. And, well, just go!
Explore Downtown
You are now in the downtown area and there are TONS of options for you at this point. But, you are literally right across the street from one of my favorite places/landmarks in L.A., the public library. I recommend taking a look around there too. If you can plan your visit on a day that provides a tour with a guide, do it! It is basically a museum over there I tell ya. I am totally being serious too.
Angel’s Flight
Are you still feeling like you have enough energy to keep going? Because I am going to suggest a 15 minute walk to an area that’s just a few blocks away. It’s another, yes another, iconic Los Angeles landmark featured in the movies The Glen Miller Story, Bunker Hill, The Little Shop of Horrors, City of Angels (with good ole’ Nick Cage), and most notably La La Land. It’s also right next to the park scene in 500 Days of Summer.
It was also featured on Huell Howser, and if you don’t know him; well, I am sorry. But, I’m sending you to Angel’s Flight, a funicular railway, right there on Bunker Hill. Angels Flight is actually really, really short so it’s definitely more of a detour than destination. But, it’s one of those detours that’s definitely worth taking. It is $1 each way, $2 round-trip. It’s kind of bumpy, has a weird history, it’s old, and funky, and you’ll be sad if you miss out on this experience.
Grand Central Market
Take the funicular train down so that you can eat at The Grand Central Market. It doesn’t matter what you want, because there are dozens of options. It’s a high quality, hipster, L.A., food court. But, if like me, you really like ice cream, I am going to make my biggest suggestion to get McConnell’s Ice Cream. Because, Oh. My. Gosh. after eating here it is now my new favorite ice cream. But, this is a fun location for any group at any time of day. And, I would love to hear your favorites, like I said, I am a fan of food.
So, seize the day. Have an adventure. The day is ready for you and I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Share your experiences with me. I’m ready for my next escapade too.
