The All New Jurassic World—The Ride at Universal Studios

I have to admit, I was a bit bummed when I found out Universal Studios was closing Jurassic Park the ride to give it a face lift. It was still a decent ride to me, and we had passes to the park and wouldn’t be able to ride it for the remainder of our time there. Sure it has seen better days in the last 20 plus years, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
With that said, we recently rode the new Jurassic World ride and I am SO GLAD they redid it. It is definitely an upgraded attraction!
Jurassic World the ride took the best parts of the old ride, combined it with the best parts of the latest movie to create a terrifyingly fun experience.
Guests are immersed in this epic adventure with fear, adventure and thrills. It’s bigger, better and more real than ever before!
I was disappointed when I realized they didn’t keep the original score… because, I mean, c’mon it was the best! However, that disappointment quickly disappeared as the ride began and the larger than life aquarium came into view and I was soaked by the shark eating Mosasaurus. (Yes, it’s as cool as it sounds). And it just maintained that amount of fun for the entire ride!
The animatronics are far superior to the old ones. And the ride, I’m happy to say, is just a step up from the old Jurassic Park ride. It starts with a bang, ends with a splash, with dino-sized thrills all along!
We rode it (multiple times) on a hot day, so we enjoyed the plunge at the end, which thoroughly soaked most of us. Even my younger daughter who was a bit hesitant at the beginning of the ride, was nothing but squeals and laughter by the end; begging to do it again and again and again! If you aren’t thrilled about getting wet, invest in a poncho. The good news though, there is no lack in the entertainment factor of Jurassic World: the ride. Don’t forget to utilize their child swap option which allows parents with younger kids to ride and switch out. Saves you time from the line and makes sure no one is left out of the fun!
Aside from the ride itself the Jurassic World area of the theme park also took it up a notch. You can still meet and “interact” in a jarring way with the not so friendly ‘Blue’ the velociraptor. Honestly, she is so scary and realistic; but in a funny, watch your back kind of way. Like a big dog with a loud bark. And don’t worry, her handler is there to amp up the effect considerably.
But, you can now interact with not only Blue, but also a lumbering giant triceratops and an awfully cute baby velociraptor. These two definitely provide some much needed sweetness to the area.
For younger guests (and an area we frequent a lot while the older kids are riding) is the interactive DinoPlay area. They can run around, climb on a full sized T-Rex skull and dinosaur egg, cross a rope bridge, and even excavate giant fossils.
And, whether you have the appetite of an Indominus Rex or just want a little bite, you can get something to eat and drink at the Isla Nu-Bar and the Jurassic Cafe, which has Costa Rican inspired cuisine. Or get your souvenirs and commemorative gifts at Jurassic Outfitters. And don’t forget to purchase your photo to prove you rode the ride and survived!
Don’t miss out on the new Jurassic World ride now open at Universal Studios Hollywood!
